ROMANS

Summary Of Romans: Paul wrote Romans in 57-58 AD from Corinth on his third missionary journey. He had 3 purposes: (1) to advise Rome's Christians of his plans to visit them; (2) to present the gospel message; and (3) to address Jewish-Gentile tensions, advising that Jews and Gentiles alike are under sin, and both alike are saved by faith in Jesus. The theme is "the gospel", in which the righteousness of God is revealed (1:16, 17).
Lesson: "The just shall live by faith." (1:17)

ROMANS 1
MAN'S UNRIGHTEOUSNESS

Chapter 1
Summary: Paul first establishes a rapport with his readers (1-15). He gives his greeting {1-7}, stating his identity [1], his subject [2], his theme [3-6], his readers [7a], and his greeting [7b]. He then gives his intention (his desire to visit Rome) {8-15}, mentioning thanksgiving [8], prayers [9-10], desired fellowship [11-12], and desired evangelism [13-15].

Paul then discusses God's wrath on unrighteousness (16-32). First, he gives the remedy for God's wrath {16-17}, the gospel: 1) it is the power of God [16]; and 2) it is the revelation of God's righteousness [17]. Second, he gives the reasons for God's wrath {18-23}: 1) God's truth is suppressed [18]; 2) God's revelation is ignored [19-20]; and 3) God's glory is perverted [21-23]. Third, he gives the results of God's wrath {24-32}: 1) man is abandoned to uncleanness [24-25]; 2) man is abandoned to sexual perversion [26-27]; and 3) man is abandoned to depravity [28-32].

Lesson: We are saved from our unrighteousness by faith in Jesus Christ.

ROMANS 2
GOD'S JUDGMENT

Chapter 2
Summary: Because everyone sins, God's righteous judgment comes to all. Paul discusses (I) the nature of God's judgment (1-16), and (II) the nature of the Jews' judgment (17-29).
(I) The nature of God's judgment is based on 3 standards: (1) truth {1-4}; (2) works {5-10}; and (3) impartiality {11-16}. [Read God's Judgment for believers: (Rom. 14:10-13; 1 Cor. 3:11-15; 2 Cor. 5:9-11); and for unbelievers Rev. 20:11-15).]
(II) The nature of the Jews' judgment is based on 2 standards: (1) hypocrisy {17-24} [see also Mt. 7:1-6]; and (2) ritual {25-29}.
Lesson: Believers face God's judgment for rewards, not condemnation.

THE ROMANS ROAD TO SALVATION

God's salvation requires God's righteousness. His righteousness is a gift through Jesus Christ.
Here are 5 verses from the Bible's book of Romans, which tell you how to be saved.

WHO IS RIGHTEOUS?
There is none righteous, no, not one. (3:10)

WHO HAS SINNED?
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (3:23)

WHAT IS SIN'S PRICE?
The wages of sin is death. (6:23)

WHAT IS GOD'S SOLUTION?
God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (5:8)

WHAT IS GOD'S PROMISE?
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (10:9)

WILL YOU ASK TO BE SAVED?
Simply pray this from your heart. Dear God, I am a sinner, and I repent of my sins. I believe Jesus died for my sins and was raised for my righteousness. I now trust Jesus as my Savior, and thank you for my salvation. Amen.
